Season's Best

Brown Trout: 16lb 12oz - R Clarkson
Rainbow Trout: 20lb 4oz - Gavin Holden

Report for Week Ending 22nd October

Lakes Two, Three & Four

All lakes fishing very well with fish in the top two feet of water, loads of head & tail rises. Fish being taken on dries & small nymphs fished very slow across the wind. However, one elderly regular fished a size 12 longshank viva & had his five fish limit within a couple of hours. Guess what fly now features in the catch return book on a regular basis? Water clarity is excellent & the outlook is looking good

Lake One

Most rods are catching their limit on mainly lures, top fly a White Nomad. Best pegs the two opposite the lodge & the point on the island. Again fish are in the top two feet of water

Report for Week Ending 22nd August

After a slow start to August the fishing has improved immensely, mainly due to the drop in water temperature. Fish are now feeding in the top 2 feet of water with good sport to dries & small midge pupae, fished just subsurface. Prospects are now excellent. With the cranefly hatches due soon the surface action should continue well into the end of September

Bigger fish now being caught on Lake 1. Best spot is the area of trees overhanging the lake opposite the main lodge which can be reached with a long cast from the island

Report for Week Ending 27th June

Fishing has been tough over the past week due to the high winds & water temperature. However, we have had cold evenings & nights which is slowly bringing the water temperature down, the result being that over the past two afternoons the fish have started to show again & the immediate prospects look good

Rainbows to 7lb 12oz taken from lakes 2,3 & 4. Good bags from lake 1 but no big fish this week

Report for Week Ending 31st May

Lakes 2,3 & 4 fishing the best they have done all season. Good hatches of sedge & mayfly giving excellent top of the water sport. Fish to 5lb comming to dries & emergers

Lake 1 sport has also been supurb but please check with the fishery as to the water clarity, last weekends rain has caused this lake to colour up but it should clear by next weekend. Browns to 12lb 12oz & rainbows to 14lb taken

Prospects looking good. Several corporate/club days booked for next month so please phone for bookings

Report for Week Ending 4th May

The fish are not too deep, although the brighter weather has put them down as far as 8 feet at times

Best flies are Damsels, Montanas & Cat's Whiskers

The rods on Lakes 2, 3 & 4 are averaging 3 fish per rod with most bags containing rainbows between 3lb & 4lb 8oz

Lake 1 has produced some excellent fish including 2 browns of 16lb 12oz & 13lb 4oz. There are a lot of fish showing on the surface in the early evening

Report for Week Ending 5th April

Lakes 2, 3 & 4 producing rainbows to 6lb & loads of browns up to 4lb on damsels, buzzers & Montana patterns. Superb rises throughout the day owing to the enormous hatches of very small black midge. Water clarity on lake 2 is good & very good on lakes 3 & 4

Lake 1 has produced some excellent fish topped by a 16lb 12oz brown caught by a Mr R Clarkson & a 15lb 0oz brown caught & returned by Mr D Clewley. There is some colour in lake 1 but it has not affected the quality of the fishing

Best method for all lakes is floating line with long leaders (at least 20 feet) & flies fished across the wind

Report for Week Ending 23rd February

Lakes 2, 3 & 4 have been fishing very well with the rod average around the 4 fish per rod, rainbows to 5lb 8oz being taken. Quite a few browns in the 3 - 4lb range also coming out & returned. Water clarity is excellent

Lake 1 fishing has been hampered by the water clarity, this has now cleared The fishery rainbow record was broken this week with a fish of 20lb 4oz taken by Gavin Holden, a brown of 13lb 0oz was caught by R Jones & released

The fish are in the top 4' of water taking mainly dark coloured flies

Report for Week Ending 26th January

Lake is now starting to clear after the very heavy rains & run off from the surrounding fields. Only three rods fished lake 1 this week, all rods caught fish, the biggest was a rainbow of 7lb 12oz. Not very big but all the fish were in excellent condition & fought hard. As long as we do not have any further heavy rain the prospects for this lake are excellent

Lakes 2, 3 & 4 are fishing very well, as they always do this time of year, with most rods taking bag limits. Fish are in the top 4 feet of water, some rods last week were even taking fish on dries, I know it sounds daft but if anyone knows John White ask him, he did it

As is always this time of year mud is a problem, so please be careful particularly when landing fish

Club & corporate booking are coming in fast so if you or your club wish to come this year please contact the fishery as soon as possible. Just a reminder we will reserve lake 1 exclusively for 10 or more rods.
